Sarah Raven takes the art of vegetable growing to a whole new level. It isn’t just that she has green thumbs – she has green hands and probably green arms, as well. Little wonder, then, that she has become a sort of gardening super star with several best-selling books to her name and countless television and radio appearances. We consider ourselves extremely lucky to have her as a guest this year and expect this (and her other course, for that matter) to sell out quickly – so don’t dawdle if you are interested in attending.

As its name implies ‘Year Round Vegetables’ is all about ensuring that you can eat your home-grown produce not just between June and September, but for all twelve months of the year. It is aimed at those with some experience of growing – though this isn’t vital. Great emphasis will be given to the business of supply and demand – in other words ensuring that you have the right amount of the right vegetables at the right time. Sarah will cover successional sowing, how to design a year-round sowing plan, the system of plant rotation, harvesting, pest control and ornamental plants to make your productive patch look as good as the rest of the garden.  In the afternoon she will also reveal which varieties she finds most successful herself.

Sarah is an inspirational and passionate teacher, running cooking, flower arranging, growing and gardening courses at the school she set up in 1999 at her farm in East Sussex.  She is a presenter on BBC Gardeners’ World, she writes for The Daily Telegraph, Gardens Illustrated, Gardeners’ World Magazine, and Domino Magazine (US) and has been a guest on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour and the Food Programme.

Sarah will also be bringing over her substantial collection of Bulbs and Seeds and it will be possible to buy many of the bulbs for the flowers and plants Sarah will be discussing during the course.
